We have mentioned recently that there has been a wave of fake emails from our email provider (see Scam Emails or Phishing blog) trying to get access to your email account. There is another new wave of emails coming out that actually threaten bodily harm and blackmail. If you receive such an email, please look at them carefully as they are more than likely fake!

One example of these emails is one that says they have caught you doing something inappropriate on your computer and that they have recorded it. They then threaten to release it if you do not pay a particular amount in Bitcoin. (Bitcoin is “a type of digital currency in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of nits of currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently of a central bank”).

Another example is pictured below that threatens bodily harm. Please note the language that is used shows that English is not their first language. It is pretty clear that these are fake messages, however, if you receive an email like any of these and are unsure if they are fake or not, please contact us and we will help you!
