After much huffing and puffing we launched our own new web site design. Our previous design was four years old and was just a wee bit past it’s best. We needed to put a new face on our business and that face had to be bang up-to-date.
The new design features a javascript based Slideshow at the top of the Home page and in the sidebar Project box. We selected javascsript rather than Flash for its ease of updates and because it renders (works) properly in the iphone/itouch/ipad environment.
On our portfolio page we wanted a better way to show off our website design work. We used the Lightshow system to make each portfolio link render in the middle of the browser and we made sure you can easily click to the live sites.
At the top of each page we added ‘Get A Quote’ which is our main call to action. Even in the short time the site has been live we have seem an uplift in the number of RFPs received so we know that worked.
We wanted to make our Services pages easier to navigate and we did this with a drop down menu off our Services tab. Now we can add/subtract a page from the menu and the world will be able to instantly see the changes.
We had great fun selecting, cropping and editing the images we use in each page banner. Images are all stock photos so are bought royalty free images.
Finally, we are using Tartan in the design. This is the first time we have featured our Scottish heritage in the site design and we think it adds a nice touch.
